Product Overview
Restore or complete your 81mm mortar system with our newly manufactured 81mm M29A1 Mortar Cup (Receiver), precision CNC-machined from 4041 steel and finished with a durable manganese parkerized coating. Manufactured to mil-spec standards, this receiver is engineered for correct fit, strength, and long-term service life, making it suitable for restoration projects, live-fire mortar systems, and historically accurate builds.
Historical Significance
The U.S. M29 81mm mortar entered service in the early 1950s as a post-World War II successor to the earlier M1 mortar. While the M1 traced its lineage directly to the French Brandt mle 27/31—the design that became the foundation for nearly all Western 81mm mortars—the M29 represented a refinement of that proven concept for Cold War-era infantry warfare.
The M29 system improved portability and handling while preserving the ballistic performance that made the 81mm mortar the backbone of U.S. infantry indirect fire support. It saw extensive service during the Korean War and Vietnam War, where reliability, sustained fire capability, and ease of maintenance were critical.
The M29A1 variant introduced refinements intended to improve durability and service life under sustained training and operational use. At the heart of the system is the mortar cup (receiver), which houses the firing pin assembly and absorbs repeated firing stresses. Correct metallurgy, machining tolerances, and surface treatment are critical to the longevity standards that this receiver is built to meet.
Precision Manufacturing & Materials
This M29A1 mortar cup is CNC machined from 4041 steel, selected for its strength, toughness, and resistance to fatigue under repeated firing cycles. Each receiver is produced to military specifications to ensure proper interface with M29A1 components.
A manganese parkerized finish is applied for corrosion resistance and durability, matching the traditional U.S. military finish used on original mortar components. This coating provides a matte, non-reflective surface consistent with historical military production.
