Historical Significance

The Soviet 82-BM-41 mortar was a vital advancement from the earlier Model 1937, introduced during World War II to address the need for greater maneuverability and cost-effective production. Unlike the Model 1937, the 82-BM-41 featured a removable wheelbase, an arched construction base plate similar to those in larger 107mm and 120mm mortars, and a modified bipod with a different two-legged construction. These design changes allowed for easier transport, as the wheels could be slipped over the semi-axis of the bipod feet and removed during firing.

While the ballistic performance of the 82-BM-41 was comparable to the Model 1937, it offered greater convenience in transport. However, it was less stable during firing and had a worse center of gravity. Despite these trade-offs, the 82-BM-41 played a crucial role in numerous Soviet campaigns, including the Battle for Moscow, the Battle of Stalingrad, and the Battle of Kursk. Its effectiveness was recognized even by the enemy, as captured 82-BM-41 mortars were designated by the Germans as the 8.2 cm GrW 274/3(r).

Important Notice

This mortar is being sold in kit form, which means it is not being sold as a registered destructive device. This is a stepped transaction, which means you pay for the entire kit upfront and we ship everything to you but the cup (receiver) and the tube (barrel). The cup, which is the firearm receiver, must be shipped to an FFL licensee within your state. This will transfer as a standard Title 1 firearm receiver, no different than a standard rifle, shotgun, or handgun. You will go to your dealer and fill out the standard 4473 over-the-counter firearms transaction record. Once the receiver is in your possession, you will need to fill out and submit a Form 1 (application to make and register an NFA firearm) to the BATFE, requesting permission to make a destructive device. Once you have received the approved Form 1 back from the ATF, you will provide us a copy of the Form 1 for our records, and then the tube/barrel will be shipped directly to you. Engraving services are available if you would like us to engrave your maker information on the cup after your Form 1 has been approved. All NFA rules apply.

The cup screws onto the base of the tube, and you now have a complete, legally registered, destructive device. The 81mm/82mm rounds that are fired out of the 82mm Model of 41 use a special 12-gauge shotgun blank to launch the mortar projectile out of the barrel. These 12-gauge blanks are available for purchase on our website Here. Pictures are stock images of our inventory. Unless otherwise noted, you will not be receiving the exact item shown in the pictures. The pictures are representative of the item’s general condition.

All Mortars Will Vary in Condition, Markings, and components. The item you will receive will generally be in the same condition as the pictures. These are historic Mortars and will not be the same.
